How to Score Tickets for the LA28 Olympics

Published 12:11pm on 12 May 2026

By Social Director Kate Gillespie

Every four years, I've allocated time to watch the Olympics on TV. I never dreamed of being able to be a spectator in person. And then I met a former Olympian, Elizabeth Liz Miles who rowed in the 1984 LA womens four crew. She inspired my interest in viewing the 2024 Olympics in person—In France. (Liz is the sister-in-law of my fiancĂ©e Paul.)

We started planning to go to the 2024 summer Olympics just five months before the games. Alas—we were too late to get tickets for the sailing events! We were fortunate to score tickets for rowing and canoeing medal events, and the closing ceremony. But as we had waited until the last few months before the events, many of the tickets were extremely expensive.

The 2028 Olympics are in and near Los Angeles. Many event tickets cost less than $100 if one buys their tickets early.  To minimize opportunities for ticket scalpers, the number of tickets one can purchase are limited and controlled.

The ten competitive sailing events are from July 16-28, 2028. The sailing venues are at the Port of Los Angeles and Belmont Shores in Long Beach. The LA Port is hosting at San Pedro July 23rd-28th: Mens and Womens Dinghy (Ilca 6 or 7), Mens and Womens Skiff (49er or FX), Mixed Dinghy (Ilca 6 or 7) and Mixed Multihull (Nacra 17). The first three days are qualification runs, narrowing the fields for medal contention.

Belmont Shore will host four board events July 16th to 20th: Men's and Women's Windsurfing, and Men's and Women's Kite. See: https://la28.org/en/games-plan...

All of these events take place in the afternoon and evening before dusk.

As the LA28 events are on the West Coast, they are easier to plan to attend. There are various ticket drops when batches of tickets are offered for purchase by the official organizers. Registration for Ticket Drop 1 closed in March. (When the Drop 1 tickets became available in April, I did not find the sailing events.) The deadline for registration for Ticket Drop 2 is July 21, 2026. Registration is free and does not obligate one to purchase—rather you gain the right to be able to purchase tickets for the official sponsors.

Here's how to buy tickets:

  • Register at tickets.LA28.org before July 22, 2026
  • Stay tuned to your email to see if you've been randomly selected for a time slot to shop during Drop 2
  • Purchase tickets during your time slot

The Drop Window for time slots and purchases will likely be 10-11 days in August. Registering for the ticket draw (prize) does not guarantee you will receive a time slot to purchase. Selection of the right to purchase is random. For more information, please consult the Official Rules on the LA28 website
(the rules are 20 pages long). Each person winning may only purchase 12 tickets, with some exceptions.

For more information about the purchasing process, please find The Official LA28 Tickets Purchase Checklist on the LA28 website.
