Success Through the OWSA Cruising Study Groups
Led by Cruising Coordinator Julie Demaree, another cohort of OWSA women participated in Cruising Study Groups during the 2023/24 winter. In May, two members of the daytime Study Group, Debra Burke and Rosemary Reeves, along with OWSA member Bernadette LeLevier completed certification for American Sailing Association courses ASA 101, ASA 103, and ASA 104 through the San Juan Sailing School. BOAST Member Spotlight: Julie Cumiford
From beginner sailor to boat owner, Julie (one of four OWSA Julies) joined BOAST last year, intent on becoming more comfortable with being in charge of a boat. OWSA Acquires a New Sailboat - The Calypte
OWSA maintains a small fleet of sailboats on the Columbia for use in educational programs including classes on sailing & boat maintenance and for the BOAST Program. The exciting news is that we have acquired a new sailboat, the Calypte -- an Ericson 27 that was built in 1973. A Lovely OWSA Holiday Party - 2023
The OWSA holiday Party took place on December 7th at the Portland Yacht Club, who kindly donated the space and importantly, opened the bar. The view enjoyed from the dining room had all the boats moored at PYC festively decorated with holiday lights for the season. About 50 members attended, wearing their festive holiday outfits. OWSA Receives "Grow Boating" Award
OWSA Receives "Grow Boating" Award The Grow Boating Committee of the Northwest Marine Trade Association has awarded 10 grants of $1,000 each to Pacific Northwest organizations for 2023 - and OWSA is one of those organizations.
