Join me in welcoming our 2019 New Directors.

Katie Drew, Social Director

Katie joined OWSA in 2012 and has served in many capacities: Guppy in 2013, Race Captain in 2014-15, and Education Chair in 2016-18. After a knee injury forced her to stop her being an instructor in running and skiing, she found the water. She completed her first sailing class at Willamette Sailing Club and fell in love with sailing. She is also a member of Island Sailing Club and loves taking fellow OWSA members out on the water.

Melissa Cearlock, Operations Director

Melissa is native to the Vancouver/Portland area, actively sailing since the age of 6. She has traveled offshore, explored the Puget Sound, she's taught kids to sail at West Moorland Pond, and also sailed in the tropics while stationed in Guam during her time in the Navy. Melissa got her first boat in 2007, a 26 foot Paceship and spent many weekends on the Chesapeake Bay, MD. Returning to the Pacific NW without her boat in late 2013 Melissa discovered OWSA at the Portland Boat Show in January 2014. She has taken classes, volunteered at various OWSA events, and is also active in Racing – truly getting women out on the water. Melissa served as our Treasurer in 2015-2017, and Email Coordinator and Webmaster in 2018.

Leslie Goldsmith, Program Director

Leslie Goldsmith has been participating in Wednesday Night Sails and monthly meetings for five years and feels that being on the Board in this role would be a good way for her to give back to an organization that has helped her gain confidence and reconnect with the sailing skills. She grew up in the Boston area and was fortunate to learn sailing in small boats as well as on her dad's sloop in the waters of Buzzard's Bay and Cape Cod. Leslie's participation in OWSA has included taking the Basics classes and Cool Maneuvers. She also provided her home for a February Fireside orientation meeting. She says she's ready to make the time commitment as Program Director to help ensure this wonderful women's organization continues to meet the needs of all our members.

Kathleen Winterling, Fundraising Director

Kathleen Winterling is a new member and has taken the plunge into our culture, frequently capturing and posting OWSA out on the water. She's been part of the BOAST program this year and has actively been participating in races and events. She is as dedicated and ambitious in her life as she is in sailing and has graciously agreed to help us spearhead our fundraising program and efforts this year as our Fundraising Director.

Jennifer Wiseman, Education Director

As soon as Jennifer Wiseman heard about OWSA she knew wanted to get involved and immediately volunteered as the Class Registrar. Since January 2018 she has also gotten involved in the BOAST Program, has actually learned to sail and is starting to mentor other new sailors with her crew aboard Picaroon. She loves the encouragement and support she has found in OWSA and would love nothing more than to continue to pay it back. Jen has the dedication to get the job done and would proudly serve as the Education Chair

Shancy Holland, Vice Commodore

Shancy Holland started sailing in the 90's on Lake Minnetonka in the Twin Cities. She loves being on the water, has had fun racing and enjoys getting to know passionate sailors. She joined OWSA in 2009 and served as database administrator for 3 years then technology chair for the past two years. Shancy is constantly improving her sailing skills, and has learned a lot about boat ownership since purchasing a Catalina 22 a few years ago. A two week sailing trip to the British Virgin Islands in 2015 inspired her to continue learning about navigation and provisioning for future sailing trips.
