14 OWSA members were among the 45 women at the Eugene Yacht Clubs Womens Sailing Social at Fern Ridge Lake, on August 810. Some ladies camped both nights, while others came for Saturday only. We had the option to sail up to three sessions on different boats each time. (I loved my first catamaran ride and going out on the trapeze - SO FUN!!!)
Saturday afternoon featured the Margarita Race, rounding eight buoys before reversing course, so whoever was in the lead was now at the rear as we raced back to the start. The weather was sunny, with plenty of wind and gusts up to 22 knots. We ended the day with a delicious BBQ potluck and an impromptu sing-a-long. At night, we were treated with a luminous, full moon shining brilliantly on the lake.
It was wonderful meeting the EYC women and sailing Fern Ridge Lake, new to most of us. Everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming. By Sunday morning, we were talking about the possibility of hosting them in Portland and joining with EYC members at future sailing events around the Northwest and California. It was a beautiful weekend of sailing and new friendships!
