On October 4th in honor of the 30th Anniversary of OWSA there was a special commodore's only event -- an afternoon sail. Fifteen commodores were able to attend are pictured above in chronological order of service:
- Gail Taylor 1997
- Cheryl McNaughton 1998
- Alice Patten 1999
- Linda Wanitschek 2000
- Donna (Krebsbach) Mac 2003
- Sue Johnson 2004
- Susan Estes 2006
- Edie Felix 2008
- Wendy Hatchadourian 2010
- Kitty Church 2011
- Ashley Paterson 2014
- Laura Gadley 2022
- Robin Smith 2024 (Rear-Commodore)
- Julie Schumann 2024
- Carolyn Morse 2025 (Vice Commodore)
Much appreciated was that three very special community sailboats & their skippers stepped up to make this event even more fabulous:
- Crystal Swan - Jeanie & Tom Becker
- Adios - Craig Shaw
- Aiya - Kathy Souhrada.
Considering how far in advance the event was planned the weather and wind cooperated beautifully with blue skies with agreeably distributed cloud cover, a comfortable 65 degrees and a steady light westerly. All three boats raised their spinnaker or drifter sails to make their way together upriver all the way to the I-205 bridge. During the upwind return, Aiya shot off several celebratory "cannon" fire, leaving the crews of Crystal Swan & Adios wondering whether they were about to be boarded and plundered. However, they all made it back safely for friendly après-sail companionship and yummy Thai takeout in the RCYC clubhouse.
