Led by Cruising Coordinator Julie Demaree, another cohort of OWSA women participated in Cruising Study Groups during the 2023/24 winter. In May, two members of the daytime Study Group, Debra Burke and Rosemary Reeves, along with OWSA member Bernadette LeLevier completed certification for American Sailing Association courses ASA 101, ASA 103, and ASA 104 through the San Juan Sailing School.  This accomplishment was achieved after roughly 5 months of personal study and group meetings every 2 weeks.

What is a Study Group and why participate?  An OWSA study group is a small group of like-minded people who want to learn more about sailing and in some cases, intend to complete ASA certification.  Other members join the study group to improve their sailing knowledge but do not go on to certification. Group participation helps maintain focus and develops friends to support your goals.  During each meeting, we discussed multiple chapters of the three ASA course textbooks and reviewed the study questions.  In some cases, such as knot-tying, we went further in-depth and used online resources.  We also shared our own experiences, both positive and situations that didn't go so well.

Whether its a cold, rainy winter or a beautiful, sunny summer, OWSA is here to help you achieve your sailing goals!
