Laura Gadley, Winner of OWSA's 2023 Crystal Sail Award

The Crystal Sail is The Sharon Sites Adams Award for OWSA volunteers who are "The Wind In Our Sails."

Sharon gifted the crystal glass sculpture to us for this purpose.  Sharon was deemed an Honorary OWSA Member because she is a local hero: the first woman to solo sail from Los Angeles to Hawaii in 1965 and in 1969 the first woman to solo sail from Japan to San Diego.  Her book Pacific Lady, comes highly recommended -- "a very good read".

Laura Gadley served OWSA as Vice Commodore, Commodore and Rear Commodore, 2021 - 2023. She continued to provide valuable support and continuity in 2024 as the board navigated through significant change.

Laura is now in her third year as Fleet Manager or co-Fleet Manager, a volunteer position which requires significant time, resources and connections. She led the Calypte Planning Committee after the purchase of OWSAs Ericson 27 and expansion of the BOAST Program for intermediate sailors. Laura was also responsible for the sale of Hoodview.

Laura is always willing to lend a helping hand, most recently on the 30th anniversary committee. She likely checked you in at the event!

Laura has embraced OWSA and we have greatly benefited by her volunteering "wind in our sails". Congratulations, Laura, and thanks for all that you contribute!
