Autumn Sailing ... You Can Still Get Out There

As the Summer draws to a close, many people think that sailing is done for the year, but it doesn't have to be. You can sail year round in Portland. Just prepare yourself with layers of warmer and water-proof gear and gloves and you can definitely enjoy this Autumn out on the water.

There are many local opportunities including a final Wednesday Night Sail on September 15th, plus some additional Saturday outings are also planned, so keep an eye on your email to see the announcements. Other options are A beer can race on September 25th themed "Out of this World", CYC Sailing on Sundays starts on September 19th and goes pretty much through the winter. (If you don't have a boat to crew on, there is often a need for staff on the Committee boat.) Our dinghy sailing friends at the Willamette Sailing Club also have racing on Sundays through October.

This time of year is also a great for doing that boat maintenance you've been putting off because it was too hot. It is so pleasant to be in the Marina on these cooler days -- I have finally started waxing my sun-faded 1970's yellow gelcoat, and the difference is amazing -- see the picture to the right.

Our WNS group is looking to set up some work parties with their Skippers, so that participants can show their appreciation and learn more about boat maintenance -- even though they might not have their own boat to work on. Again, keep an eye on your email for invitations!
