SYSCO Crew Overboard  (COB) Challenge
March 24th, Sunday, start time 1pm
Buoy 14 Start line
Everybody welcome!

Practice your Crew Overboard skills in the Crew Overboard Challenge March 24th, starting at 1pm. No one goes in the water! Way more fun that way! Do you know what to do if someone falls overboard? This challenge is set up to practice your skills by going through 2 overboard drills of your own design. This practice drill is a great mixer because you can't continue on until you retrieve your marker from the water.

The other fun part of this race is the Pursuit Chase start: the slowest boats go first. Theoretically, everyone will end at the same time, making for an exciting finish. But, see above for the chaos maker that comes from the overboard drills!

This challenge is sponsored by SYSCO (Small yacht sailing club of Oregon) every year. For 2024 we're using it as a Grow the Sport event. All sailboats are welcome to participate.

You can sign up on syscosailing.org and follow the notices on the sailpdx.org race boards. First horn is at 1pm where the Ranger 20s will get a 15-minute head start. If you have a boat and no crew, or you are willing crew with no boat, contact me, Carisa Bohus fireside@owsa.net and I can help get you what you need to practice this important drill and lift our river safety!

You may have heard, last weekend there was a person overboard in the Sailing on Sunday race. Thankfully, a very skilled boat was able to fish her out, but she still suffered hypothermia symptoms. Very dangerous, and we are so lucky this ended well enough. It is a good reminder that we need to practice these drills.

Come to the General meeting to hear about this from the Membership Officer for SYSCO and OWSA Member Carisa Bohus.
