Treasurer - Flag Officer Position

A working knowledge of QuickBooks is essential for the Treasurer position. This includes understanding asset management, entering assets correctly, tracking income and expenses, recording depreciation, and developing and maintaining the annual budget within QuickBooks.
Although I had used QuickBooks for decades in several companies, serving as Treasurer required learning how accounting principles apply specifically to a 501(c(missing upload )3) nonprofit organization. Gaining that knowledge has been an important part of effectively fulfilling the role.
The primary responsibility is entering daily revenue and expenses into QuickBooks, which typically requires about 10 hours each month. Recording the purchase and sale of boats requires additional time, but it is not a significant part of the overall workload.
Each month, the Treasurer prepares and distributes financial reports to the Board of Directors and committee chairs, comparing the approved budget to actual expenditures. Annually, the Treasurer works with committee chairs to collect their budget requests and enter the approved budget into QuickBooks for the upcoming fiscal year.
