2021 OWSA RACING SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

I have been so inspired this year by the interest AND participation in racing!
A HUGE highlight for OWSA this year was that ALL 3 OWSA BOAST BOATS RACED IN THE SYSCO SERIES!!! The season started off with Kim Bylick, Natalie Corkhill & Colleen Lacivita Skippering the boats. As the season progressed, several of the other boast members stepped up to the HELM! AWESOME JOB LADIES!!
Another Bright Spot for OWSA, was due to the ingenuity of member CARISA BOHUS in developing the virtual program DOCK TALK! Carisa had several sessions where she would recruit experienced and new to racing individuals from OWSAand the Community of Sysco racers to participate in the program talking about their recent races, specific race topics, rules…. AWESOME JOB CARISA!!
Beginning last November, a group of OWSA members who were experienced racers, started meeting to discuss and develop ideas for the 2021 Race Clinic. The OWSA RACE COMMITTEE was born! I want to give a heartfelt thank you to the following women who donated their time to help bring about the 2021 race clinic!! We were on our way!!

- Carisa Bohus- Recruitment and technical support
- Neonta Bell- Racing Skipper Vetter
- Kathleen Winterling- Beer can and Race Clinic Promotions
As the race clinic started to take shape..I started to call it a RACE CLINIC ON STEROIDS!! It was packed full of activities. The line up was….
- Virtual Chalk Talk- Led by OWSA Member and off-shore racer Mary Hartel
- On the water skipper meet and greet/ and race in the OWSA Tropical Dreams Beer Can Race.
- Virtual Racing Rules Seminar- conducted by Craig Daniels
- Separate on the water sessions culminating in actual race in the OWSA Women's Regatta!
We all were extremely lucky to have had so many experienced women racers who volunteered their time and boats to make the race clinic possible and successful.

In charge of the committee boat was Carin Berg and Dan Alexander who provided Grey Riesling as our platform boat & supported by committee boat members Melissa Cearlock, Kathleen Winterling
