Update on COVID 19 - Stay Home, Save Lives
Published 4:57pm on 25 Mar 2020
Executive Order 20-12, from Governor Kate Brown, and a very similar Executive Order from Governor Jay Inslee, directs everyone in out states to stay at home to the maximum extent possible and adds to the list of businesses that will be temporarily closed to stem the spread of COVID-19.
These went into effect Monday, 3/23/2020 and will remain in effect until ended by the Governors.
What does that mean for OWSA?
- These orders direct to stay home whenever possible, while permitting activities outside the home when social distance is maintained. Yes, you can go outdoors for physical activity and exercise, but keep a 6' distance from others.
- Gatherings of members of the same residential household are permitted. Yes, that does include sailing or working on your boat, but keep a 6' distance from others outside of your household.
- All non-essential social and recreational gatherings of individuals are prohibited immediately, regardless of size, if a distance of at least 6' between individuals cannot be maintained. Yes, that means OWSA will be cancelling all in person events until this order is lifted. This includes in person general meetings, classes, Wednesday Night Sail, Board Meetings, etc. We will be holding Board Meetings via webconference and are investigating using Facebook Live for an event in May, so stay tuned.
I personally have been volunteering at the Blanchet House making meals for those in need. The Governor's order clearly allows for essential services like providing meals for those in need. It is important that we all do our part to help those around us within the requirements of the orders and continue to acknowledge and thank all of those that are required to work in essential services. That not only includes medical staff, first responders, firefighters and police officers but also non-profit workers helping those in need, grocery store, pharmacy, gas station staff, etc.
On behalf of the OWSA Board, thank you for being such an amazing, caring community and understanding we are in this together. We look forward to getting out on the water as soon as possible!
