2010 OWSA SCHOLARSHIPS

Boat Owners Advanced Training (BOAT)

This is an opportunity for hands-on ownership of a boat. Each year, 3 to 4 OWSA members will share unrestricted access to OWSA's Ranger 20, “Stardust.” BOAT participants will coordinate the use of Stardust, which can be taken out anytime with OWSA members, friends or family aboard. BOAT participants are required to race Stardust in weekly races during the season, and in some OWSA events. The BOAT Program hones participants skills as skipper, and provides opportunities to learn about boat care and maintenance. In addition, the crew's responsibility for Stardust's maintenance and upkeep will help them learn to care for a boat, and to trouble shoot issues first hand. The Program Coordinator will help the crew navigate the ins and outs of boat ownership. For questions email Boat@owsa.net
Application due date is March 5th.

Island Sailing Club Scholarship (ISC)

This is a one year membership to Island Sailing Club provided by ISC and OWSA. Each year, 4 OWSA members are awarded the scholarship, and share a club membership. Each scholarship recipient receives ASA Basic Keelboat Class and Certification. A passing grade must be received before taking out a boat. Members have full access to ISC yachts in Portland, Olympia, and Seattle. In addition, members receive discounts on additional ASA classes. The ISC scholarship gives OWSA members the opportunity to build sailing skills, and confidence as a skipper. ISC members experience the decision making process of planning outings, gathering crew, and choosing activities and/or destinations. ISC takes care of boat maintenance, including gas for the motor. For additional questions email RearCommodore@owsa.net
Application due date is March 15th.
